Oh My MUET!

Saya sudah,
Anda bila lagii ?

Untuk lepasan matriks ke foundation senang tak payah nak susah susah pening kepala, memang dah setkan bila ambil kalau tk silap aku, amek ramai ramai satu batch tuh. Mudah la kan ? Candidate pun budak budak kelas je kalau tak silap aku. Eh jap stpm kena ambil juga ke eh muet ni ? Haa itu aku tak sure yang aku tahu kalau matriks ye. Dan kalau tk silap aku lagi kalau nak masuk degree kena ada muet, haa gituu.

Jadi aku dan kawan kawan lain yang calon persendirian ni, haha daftar sendiri pilih tempat sendiri beli num pin sendiri eh tak itu bapak aku beli kan, heheh mahal betul RM100 -,- Disebabkan kami calon persendirian jadi kami memlilih untuk membuat muet sem 4. Kenapa ? Sebab suka hati kami lah! Kahkah tkde laa sebab sem 5 praktikal takut sibuk, sem 6 komfem sibuk dengan final project. Sem 1 2 3 sebab tknak pikir lagi pasal benda mengarut ni heheheh. Itu pun ramai budak course aku amek dekat negeri rumah masing masing sebab pikir boleh balik lama sikit tapi kebetulan masa muet tuh kita orang ya ampun busy nak mampuih -,- Bayangkan ada sorang tuh sanggup turun Terengganu malam pastu sampai pagi tuh amek muet lepas tuh terus balik KL balik. Kasihan kan ? Tuh laa sebab kita orang pun tak tahu akan busy masa tuh. Ada sorang membe aku terus tak balik amek muet, burnn duit seratus macam tuh je.... Jadi saya nasihatkan untuk awak awak yang berfikiran nak amek muet dikampung halaman tak payah laa, menyusahkan nanti. Sebab dua kali nanti kena balik, tak tahu busy macam mana nanti. Buat je dekat dekat tempat belajar korang.

Untuk orang yang power english mungkin mudah. Bagi aku yang dapat B je english time SPM susah juga ye. Hahah lagi lagi kalau engko calon persendirian kelas muet mana ada. Eh ada tapi kena cari sendiri, nak masuk taknak tkpe. Latihan ? Haha mana ada, cuma seminggu sebelum tuh baru laa bukak buku walaupun dah tahu 5 bulan sebelum. Typical student -,- Jadi aku nasihat kan banyak membaca untuk mantap kan english engko dan jumpa vocab baru sebab reading dia karangan banyak gilaa ayat tak nak kalah pulak tuhh. Hahah untuk Speaking banyak format je, kau ingat cara cara nak jawab apa pastu kau goreng laa yang lain.

Macam aku cakap, aku bab english ni lemah sikit. Haha lepas tuh dah lama tinggal, latihan pun tk buat, harap kan baca buku novel english dengan tgk drama korea ke jepun yang subtitle english tuh. Hahah tuh je, memang terabur aku rasa. Tapi aku suka dgr orang sembang english, aku tak rasa orang speaking ni poyo ke apa tak aku rasa waaaa seksii. Hahaha haa gituu laa.  

Jadi ada sorang budak kelas aku ni rajin meng-compile kan tips dari @twt_muet untuk kami. Dan sangat bergunaa tips tuh. Mari aku kongsikan kepada awak awak dan awakk.

Tips Muet.  (@twt_muet)

Apa yang korang kena tahu pasal muet. Dia ada 4 paper.

Speaking, Writing, Reading, dan Listening.

SPEAKING.
Dalam paper speaking korang akan ada dua section. Section A dan section B. Section A individual. Section B, group.

Dalam section A yang individual tu, korang akan diberi masa 2 minit untuk baca soalan dan tulis idea, dan 2 minit untuk bercakap. Ingat, 2 MINIT sahaja untuk bercakap. Ada yang kata lama, ada yang kata sekejap. 

Kalau group, korang ada 2 minit nak baca dan tulis idea, dan 10 minit nak cakap.

Tips untuk INDIVIDUAL, aku speaking dekat sini. Each 2-min presentation should include 5 important 
elements that is:

1.       Greetings
2.       Repeat situation from the Q
3.       State the point given to you
4.       3 points with relevant explanation & examples
5.       Conclusion.

Okay, for GREETINGS. You can say these greetings
         i.            Good morning to everyone
       ii.            Good morning I bid to one and all
      iii.            Good morning to the examinerS and all candidateS.
     iv.            A very good morning I wish to all examinerS and fellow candidates

And you can use this to REPEAT THE SITUATION
         i.            Today we are talking about…
       ii.            The situation I have been given is…
      iii.            According to the situation…
     iv.            Based on the situation given…

And, STATE THE GIVEN POINT
         i.            I would like to give 3 reasons for my point which is…
       ii.            There are 3 reasons to support my point which is…
      iii.            My point is ________ so to elaborate I would like to discuss 3 reasons.
     iv.            I think that ____________ is the best idea.

Then, EXPLANATION &  EXAMPLES
        i.            Firstly, I think that… This is because..  Moreover,...  For example,…
       ii.            Secondly, another reason is… In addition,… For instance,…
     iii.            Finally, in my opinion…Furthermore,… A good example is...

Lastly, THE CONCLUSION
         i.            In conclusion, this is the best point because…
       ii.            To conclude, I still agree that…
      iii.            In a nutshell, I feel that…
     iv.            In short, my idea is the best because..
It’s ok if you don’t speak on 3 points no penalty as long as you develop even one point but at least with good elaboration and examples.
**ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TALK NON-STOP FOR 2 MINUTES!!

Okay, move on ke section atau task B iaitu GROUP TASK. Korang ada dua minit untuk baca soalan dan tulis idea, dan 10 minit untuk cakap.

For task B or the second section, the first thing you need to do is greetings, saying that you are having a discussion on the topic.

Then, move on to whether you are agree or not with the point.

You can use this:
  •        I agree with you. (NOT: I’m agree.)
  •        That’s a great idea! I see your point!
  •       That’s an interesting perspective.
  •       I like your suggestion.
  •        Indeed!
  •      I concur with your point of view.

And if you don't agree, you can use this:
  •      I’m sorry but I disagree (NOT: I’m not agree)
  •   I’m afraid I have to disagree with your idea.
  •  I don’t see eye to eye with you.
  • That’s not a good idea/suggestion.
  • I beg to differ.

And if you want to interrupt, you can use this:
  •  Excuse me, may I interrupt please
  •  I’d like to add something please
  • May I say something?
  •   Could you please hear me out
  • Pardon me but could I add something please.


If you have question, you can use this :
        i.            So what do you think, Candidate X?
       ii.            How about your point of view?
     iii.            Candidate X, would you like to give us your opinion?
     iv.            Does anyone agree with me?
      v.            Why don’t we consider the other points?
     vi.            I don’t understand, can you please repeat?
   vii.            Any suggestions?

Lastly, conclusion. You can use this:
        i.            In conclusion, ALL OF US agree that…
       ii.            To conclude, MOST OF US agree that…
     iii.            In a nutshell, SOME OF US agree that…while SOME OF US prefer…
     iv.            As time is running out, it seems that ALL OF US CAN’T AGREE on which option is the best because each point has many pros and cons

*EXTRA TIPS*
  •  Fishing Technique: Read the situation carefully then ask the examiners what it means (even if you are sure you understand because they could give you extra points or vocabulary.) (**You should really do this).
  • Parroting Technique: If you really go blank, don’t worry. Just say you agree then repeat everything your friend just said. You’ll still get marks for participation. (**I used this all the time)
  • Bimbo Technique: If you have absolutely nothing to say, repeat this sentence: “I’m sorry, I don’t understand your point. Can you please explain it again?”
  • Cooperative Technique: If your friend can’t remember a word/phrase or has trouble explaining their ideas, you MUST help him/her by suggesting other words/phrases/ideas. You will get points for teamwork. (**Please help your friend and they will help you)  
  • Equal Opportunity Technique: Never control a conversation by wanting to talk all the time and never giving others a chance. Instead, always ask other candidates their opinion. Encourage the quiet ones to speak up and you will get higher marks. (**REMEMBER THIS)  
  • Anti-Donkey Technique: Pay attention to the time and when it gets closer to the end of 10 mins, just try & agree with one person (even if you really don’t think so in real life! No point being stubborn in the test) (**Remember this too
WRITING.
For writing reports, you can follow this format

        i.            TITLE
       ii.            INTRODUCTION - What do you see?

a.       E.g. The stimuli present a bar graph/ table/ chart on ___ for the year ____ and a line graph/newspaper headline/news except on ______.

      iii.            OVERVIEW - What is the MOST OUTSTANDING INFO THAT LINKS ALL THE STIMULI?

a.       E.g. In general, respondents prefer X to Y/there is an increasing/decreasing trend in .. etc. A good overview will try to link ALL the stimuli together.

     iv.            For THE BODY, select the most important information that you want to highlight. You can highlight as many info as you want but I think 6 to 10 is good enough because you MUST WRITE BETWEEN 150 TO 200 so you have to be very selective of the information you include.

a.       There are two types of info you can write in one or more than one paragraph but they include these two.
                                                               i.      ANALYSIS - you write about the outstanding info (highest/lowest/most/least/etc) WITHIN A SINGLE STIMULUS. (Try not to give a year by year account because that is just listing the criteria, not selecting the most important)

                                                             ii.      B) SYNTHESIS - you should ideally write about the outstanding info that LINKS THE STIMULI. That means you must find the connection between the graphs/tables/newspapers headlines. Check if they all show and increase/decrease and mention the connection but DO NOT write your own ideas/ASSUMPTIONS (ANDAIAN). If it is not in the stimuli, don't simply write you own opinions!
     
  v.            The CONCLUSION is usually similar to the Overview, just reworded in a better and more informative way.

That's for the format writing.
In short for essays, you need to think critically. 5 paragraphs if you agree or disagree with the question. 6 paragraphs if you are on the fence (50-50)
Easiest way to divide your points is

A.       
a.       Invidual
b.      Society
c.       Country

B.              
a.       Short term
b.      Mid term
c.       Long term

C.       
a.       Causes
b.      Effects
c.       Symptoms

For the conclusion you should include the recommendation. What the country/government/society can do, for the betterment of the nation.
 
“Nak band 6, usaha macam nak band 6.”



READING.

Reading ni adalah paper YANG PALING PENTING SEKALI. Sebab markah dia 120. Aku repeat 120! TOLONG SCORE paper reading ni. Memang boring, nak kena baca banyak benda tapi paper ni lah yang akan bantu kau dapat band 4.

Ada 6 section dalam reading paper bersamaan dengan 45 soalan.

Question types:
         i.            3 option objective questions
       ii.            4 option objective questions
      iii.            3-Option MCQ. This questioning technique is introduced to really challenge candidates’ reading ability.
a.       True
b.      False
c.       Not stated
Read very carefully before choosing the right answer. DO NOT use your general knowledge to answer the question. IF it is not in the passage, don’t assume you know the answer by choosing the one that is logically right. Select ‘NOT STATED’ if it CANNOT BE FOUND in the passage or stimuli.
Information Transfer Tip: Learn the vocabulary commonly used in information transfer exercises.
§  Rise
§  Fall/Drop
§  Go up
§  Go down 
§  Gain
§  Loss 
§  Increase
§  Decrease
§  Improve
§  Depreciate
§  Escalate
§  Deteriorate
§  Incline
§  Decline

Reading Comprehension
Usually the difficulty level of the comprehension passages will increase with each passage.

For each passage, there will be 7-8 questions that cover:
         i.            Content
       ii.            Vocabulary
      iii.            Critical Thinking. 

Answers usually follow the sequence i.e. Read the passage carefully as the answer for the 2nd question is usually found between the answers for Q1 & 3 eg. If the answer for Q1 is in LINE 5 and Q3 is in LINE 20, then the answer for Q2 is most likely around LINE 6 TO 19.

Use the anaphoric (before) or cataphoric (after) referencing technique to find the answer. Anaphoric reference (before the word): A study was conducted on 200 Malaysian respondents. The researchers conducted the survey by giving them questionnaires to answer.
         i.            The word ‘them’ refers to
a.       the study
b.      the respondents
c.       the survey
*GENERAL TIPS the ONLY ways to improve are:
1)      READ, READ & READ SOME MORE (read at least 1 newspaper a day &1 book a week)
2)      PRACTISE, PRACTISE & PRACTISE EVEN MORE (do each reading comprehension test TWICE, 1st time without referring to dictionary or friends... 2nd time with reference). Logically, the 2nd try will be higher than the 1st or there is something wrong with…….YOU!

If you do well in reading, half the battle is won!


LISTENING.

Masa ni korang akan rasa tak sabar nak balik sebab nak dekat setengah hari dekat sekolah, jangan gelojoh, dengar elok-elok. Pasal paper listening tu, masa yang diperuntukkan adalah 30 minit.
Kemahiran yang diperlukan adalah mendengar untuk dapat idea, mengumpul maklumat, tafsir maklumat, buat rumusan, ambil nota pemahaman sendiri dan meringkaskan apa yang difahami.

Jenis-jenis soalan yang mungkin ditanya:
         i.            talk
       ii.            announcements
      iii.            discussions
     iv.            telephone conversation
       v.            interviews
     vi.            news
    vii.            documentaries

Tips lulus listening adalah memberikan 100% perhatian kepada pita rakaman. Sambil mendengar, CATAT NOTA PENTING.
Selalunya tips yang diberikan adalah, menonton cerita english, documentari, lagu (telitikan lirik). Tapi lagu tu janganlah dengar lagu headbanging.

*Tambahan.
Untuk speaking akan ada dua sesi. Satu, pukul  7:30 pagi, dan satu lagi jam 11:00 pagi. Kalau boleh pastikan sampai sekolah tu 7:30 dan sebelum 11:00. Memang lah dia akan mula lambat, tapi sekurangnya boleh kenal dengan orang.

Dia akan mintak kita tandangan satu kertas nak menandakan yang kita hadir. Dan daripada situ, kita akan tahu siapa group kita. Kenal kenal lah dengan ahli group tu. Tanya nama apa semua, sekurangnya bila nak buat group discussion, tak payah lah panggil candidate A, B. Kalau kita dah kenal dekat situ, tak adalah berdebar sangat.

Bawak je masuk beg duit, purse, handphone tapi handphone tu off kan lah. Jangan silent, OFF kan. JANGAN bawak masuk beg.

Kalau speaking, dia akan mintak phone tau. Kalau ikut sekolah yang aku buat tu, dia mintak. Lepas habis baru boleh ambik.

Yang hari untuk tiga paper tu pun datang lah awal. Macam ujian final kita lah kiranya.

JANGAN LUPA BAWAK MAKANAN MASA 3 PAPER TU! SERIUS NI NAMPAK AKU CAPS LOCK SEMUA. Kantin tutup, kalau lapar cemana nak jawab. Lepas tu kalau lapar dah tak boleh nak concentrate.

Daaan jangan laa baca ini sahaja, sila laa cari buku juga untuk menambah ilmu lagi. Nak beli kalau tk silap aku dalam seratus lebih jadi kalau rasa mahal boleh share dengan rakan, tak pun pinjam je tkpun google je. Hahah buat laa apa yang awak rasa baik untuk diri awak. 

Jadi segala kecuakkan aku untuk muet dah berakhir, Serious tak tahu nak aim apa, tapi ofcourse laa aim atleast band 3 sebab tk payah repeat untuk grad time degree. Tapi masalahnya itu laa, boleh ke idok ni aku dapatt.... Aku ni tah lah study main main je..... Masa jawab reading tah laa banyak hentam sebab ayat dia susah nak paham... Writting aku mengarut je aku jawab masa kejap je dia bagii.....

Semuanya terjawab pukul 3 tadi lepas aku cek. hehehe alhamdulilah terima kasih ya Allah, berkat mama abah saya doa laa nii heheh terima kasih :)
